  • Deeply moisturises and seals hair strands

  • Adds slip for detangling and styling

  • Enhances shine and softness without weighing hair down

  • Suitable for natural, relaxed and colour-treated hair

Key ingredients (with roles)

  1. Butters

    • Shea butter (refined or unrefined): emollient, moisture retention, vitamins

    • Mango butter: adds slip and lightness, less greasy than cocoa

    • Kokum butter or cupuaçu (optional): higher absorption for non-greasy finish

  2. Carrier oils (15–25% total)

    • Sweet almond oil or fractionated coconut oil: light, fast-absorbing base

    • Jojoba oil: scalp-friendly, mimics sebum

    • Avocado or castor oil (small % 3–8%): castor for hold/shine; avocado for nourishment

  3. Humectants and conditioning agents (3–8%)

    • Glycerin (vegetable): hydrates, helps retain moisture (use sparingly in humid climates)

    • Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5): improves moisture retention and softness

  4. Emulsifiers/stability aids (2–4%)

    • BTMS-50 or cetearyl alcohol + emulsifying wax: helps blend oils and butters; adds slip and conditioning

    • Polysorbate 80 (if including essential oils or fragrance with water phase)

  5. Active/nourishing additives (1–3%)

    • Hydrolyzed proteins (silk, keratin, quinoa): strengthen and smooth cuticle

    • Vitamin E (tocopherol): antioxidant, extends shelf life

  6. Preservatives (if water or humectants >2%)

    • Broad-spectrum preservative suitable for leave-on products (e.g., phenoxyethanol + ethylhexylglycerin)

    • If fully anhydrous formula and no water/glycerin, preservative may be optional — still recommended if customer may add water or use with wet hands

  7. Fragrance / essential oils (0.2–1%)

    • Light, skin-safe fragrances; test for sensitivity

    • Examples: lavender, ylang-ylang, sweet orange (use sparingly for delicate scalps)

pH

  • Anhydrous butter: pH not applicable

  • If including water phase: target 4.5–5.5 for scalp/hair compatibility

Usage directions

  • Scoop a small amount, warm between palms to melt, apply to damp hair

  • Use as daily sealant, pre-styling butter, or overnight deep treatment (apply more, cover with shower cap).
